  • Enclosure design – first look

Here’s a first look at the completed design for a sheet-metal enclosure. Kudos to my brother who obviously spent a lot of time working on this. We’ve sent the design to a local manufacturer and are waiting for them to come back to us with a quote.GS Assy_Shtmtl 100813PM

    GS Assy_Shtmtl 100813PM_2UPDATE:

The manufacturer suggested we simplify the design into two shells (top and bottom) only. I’m expecting an example in a week or so. The enclosures should be available early in November 2013.

We’ll keep this design in case we ever want to do wooden end cheeks – classy!

    UPDATE 2 (2023-10-05):

We’ve just received a sample enclosure from the manufacturer – it looks great! (Click to enlarge.)

  • Black PCBs

The first batch of black PCBs have arrived and they sure are purdy!

2013-09-01 10.13.22I’m building one to make sure they’re retail ready. I was tempted to offer them for sale a bit early, but I don’t think it’s the best of ideas – best to wait until the Alpha firmware is feature complete and bug free, and the enclosures are available too. Not long now though!

  • Hong Kong Mini Maker Faire (2013)

I’ll be showing off some Groovesizers at the Hong Kong Mini Maker Faire on August 17th. Visitors will be able to put the latest version through its paces. I’ll also have the older prototypes on display, and I may even get to do a small performance with the Groovesizers grooving along with Ableton Live.

If you happen to be in the vicinity, do pay us a visit!

  • Groovesizer Alpha (proto) – new hardware

The new PCB has an extra row of buttons for control functions, and (unlike the previous PCB) doesn’t have to be purpose built for a particular Groovesizer firmware. Instead, the hardware setup for a particular firmware is selectable via jumpers (top left).

  • Multiboard – new prototype boards are here!

I’ve started building one already as you can see – 82 resistors later… I’m documenting my progress on this one for building instructions. I’m hoping this board will be identical to the production boards (except that the real ones will be black and not green).

  • Prototype 2

I’m about to send the second, improved (and hopefully final)  prototype board off to be fabbed – fun times!

  • Groovesizer Alpha (proto) – MIDI sync

In this video, the Groovesizer is synced via MIDI clock to Reaper (playing the drum loop).
