THEREMON

Theremon is a digital theremin-style instrument and MIDI controller. Like a traditional theremin, Theremon is played without physical contact with one hand controlling pitch, and the other volume. In the place of the two antennas found on a traditional theremin, Theremon features two time of flight sensors that accurately measure the distance of the player’s hands from the instrument.

Key Features of the THEREMON

  • Contactless Control – Uses Time-of-Flight (ToF) sensors for theremin-style playing with no physical contact required
  • Dual Sensor System – Features two ToF sensors, configurable for pitch and volume control on either the left or right side
  • Multiple Sound Waves – 9 different waveforms including Sine, Saw, Square, Triangle, Pulse, and more
  • Extensive Scale Options – 22 musical scales including traditional Western scales, exotic scales (Arabian, Egyptian), and free pitch theremin mode
  • Preset Management – Save and recall up to 200 presets organized as 20 songs with 10 parts each
  • Adjustable Sensing Range – Customizable maximum detection distance for both pitch (50-500mm) and volume (50-500mm) sensors
  • Built-in Reverb Effect – Adjustable reverb level for added sound dimension
  • MIDI Implementation – Sends pitch, note, and volume data over USB MIDI for controlling external instruments
  • MIDI Input Control – Receives MIDI messages to remotely control scale, root note, and preset selection
  • Visual Feedback System – Configurable LED indicators for volume levels, pitch, and precise tuning guidance
  • Customizable Note Resolution – Adjustable step count (2-30 steps) for defining the granularity of notes across the pitch sensor’s range
  • Pitch Bend Capability – Momentary pitch bend function when holding F1 button while playing
  • Adjustable Sensor Response – Independent inversion settings for both pitch and volume sensors to customize playing experience
  • Internal Synth with Mute Option – Built-in synthesizer that can be muted when using solely as a MIDI controller
  • Persistent Settings – Ability to save instrument configuration that automatically loads at power-on

UPDATE: We received a lovely comment/review from Theremon user Jean Bonnefoy on our Theremon YouTube vid:
Ordered it and got it in a mere 10 days. I must say it’ s an amazing little device. I’ve been playing theremin for 13 years now, started with the regular Moog theremin plus which already drove via CV my korg ms rig, then added a theremini and several “mini” Japanese ones, all played with the usual antenna(s) and loop system. But the laser drive (,not so different from the d-beam of a Roland Gaia) is a real plus: the playability looks slightly easier (and certainly for a beginner) even if, in “free range” mode, I feel it slightly less precise than the Moog antennas. However, the Theremin is perfect on the road, thanks to its tiny form factor and I immediately included it in my traveling gig (O coast, volcas, micro freak and neutron: it’s a real cool midi controller, and a perfect add-on to a Korg nanokey and a Doepfer ribbon.
