    Hey there,

Welcome to the forum. Not much to see at the moment, but feel free to ask any questions you may have at this point.

Will there be enclosure to order after initial release ?

Yes, we’re currently designing the enclosure. The initial idea was to have a plastic enclosure injection molded, but by all accounts, it’s very costly to have the molds made – especially since I can’t expect to sell thousands of units at the start. The alternative plan is to do a sheet-metal enclosure. Tooling costs are lower, since the sheet-metal can be laser cut. On the downside, the price per enclosure might be slightly higher. Once the design is somewhat more complete, I can shop around for quotes.
    TLDR: we’re working on it.

I think generally cost is going to be the biggest factor. Go with whats cheaper for the end user but still lives up to your standards. I like metal, but 100$ extra for a case is a lot.

I agree. I don’t think I can do the metal enclosure if it’s much more than $35. I’m waiting on the final design (should come in any day now), and then I can get a quote from a local sheet metal factory. Waiting with bated breath.

The enclosure render does look REALLY good though. It has a nice mix of industrial, classical, and current looks to it. Looks nice and solid too the way it would be put together!

I hope the price is right!

Me too, dwhacks – anxiously waiting to hear back from the local manufacturer. I’m also going to contact a manufacturer in another city for an alternative. Lately I’ve been wondering if the place we contacted first can do the silkscreen legending. I’d also prefer to work with a company that speaks English. My Chinese isn’t really up to the task, and I have to communicate through my wife with the first one.

looking forward to these going live. I just wanted to check that midi sync can be recieved as well as broadcast?

have you seen the cases for the Mutable Instruments stuff….clear perspex, can be a good way of offering a budget alternative to those of us who dont want bare componants but dont need the expense of metal?

    just a thought.

    Hey Phil,

Yup, it sends and receives midi sync.

I certainly know the MI acrylic cases – I have one Shruthi-1 sitting on my left hand as I type and another one in my gig bag ;^) I’ve already spoken to Frank (fcd72) who does the Shruthi-1 enclosures. I’ll have a chat with him again if all else fails.

The biggest problem with the acrylic option for me is the hump at the back of the Groovesizer. I don’t know of an elegant way to do the 45 degree angled piece right behind the potentiometers. A local manufacturer I spoke to wanted to do a 90 degree angle there – I rejected the idea right away for looking butt ugly and also getting in the way of your fingers as you turn the pots.

I should be able to post an update on expected price for the metal enclosure on Wednesday.

Just heard back from the manufacturer. The enclosure will be US$35. The design will be altered slightly to save cost so that it’s a 2 piece clam shell in galvanized steel (SECC).

The idea with the detachable sides was so that we could add optional wooden end cheeks. I still like the idea, but I’d rather go with the cheaper option. Maybe we can still figure out a way to do end cheeks with the clam shell design. I’ll post images of the updated design once it’s available.

As a side note – the manufacturer can do any color, but I think I’ll go with classic black with white silkscreen legending. Any strong preferences to the contrary?

THAT is decent news. I have NO problem spending 35$ on a nice matching case for a project.

As for wooden side panels. Im sure they will still be doable, you will just have to attach them to on part of the clam before closing it (assuming it still has 90 degree edges).

    Great news!

Love the black case idea with white screen printing. The wood paneling would be the icing on cake! What would the screen printing entail? Really looking forward to this whole project! What’s the projected date of initial shipping? Pre-orders?

The printing will look similar to the image on the manual page, but without the numbering for the pots and step select buttons. There’ll probably be radial lines around the pots. The name will appear somewhere and there will be legending for the inputs and outputs.
We can’t be specific with labeling for functions though, since these will differ from firmware to firmware.
